April 8 MEMBER NEWSLETTER: All-member meeting on Thursday, April 28! NYCREIC’s 1-Year Anniversary!

Hello REIC Members!

It’s our quarterly All-Member Meeting, and our first birthday!

Our next All-Member Meeting will be held Thursday, April 28th, from 6:30-8:30pm at Middle Collegiate Church in the East Village. At this meeting, we will be hearing report-backs from our democratically-elected Steering Committee and from our four current workgroups (WGs), as we enter the second quarter of the year. We will also hear from the Community Economic Development Clinic of Fordham Law School, which is generously providing pro bono assistance to navigate challenging legal questions around incorporating and investing together. We will be holding a Spring 2016 All-Workgroup Kick-Off Meeting on Monday, March 7th, 6:30-9pm, at Brooklyn Law School Subotnick Center, 11th floor, 250 Joralemon St., Brooklyn, NY 11201 (click for map)

If you have been part of a Workgroup, or if you would like to play an active role in the REIC and possibly join a Workgroup, please come. We will be transforming some of our workgroups, creating new ones as needed, and also setting up some committees.

Our next All-Member Meeting will be held Thursday, January 28th, from 6:30-8:30pm at Middle Collegiate Church in Manhattan (see below for directions). At this meeting, we will be hearing report-backs from working groups, and holding elections for our Steering Committee!

There are 10 candidates who accepted their nominations to run for the Steering Committee. On Thursday, REIC members will vote for up to 7 candidates, and the 7 names with the most votes will be elected.

Hello NYC REIC Members!

This is the Governance Working Group. We hope you enjoyed the holiday season and are excited for some important updates about what’s been happening with REIC!

Updates on the Steering Committee Charter

The last time we emailed you, we had sent you a list of proposed rights and responsibilities for the Steering Committee that will be elected later this month. We heard incredible feedback from those of you who came to our meeting on December 14th (thank you!!), and since then have been working to incorporate that feedback into a written charter.

Hello members of the NYC REIC!

This is Eliza, Sam and Todd, reporting from the Governance working group. We are a relatively new working group (formed at an all working group meeting this past October) that has been charged with formulating a democratic governance structure and bylaws for the REIC. We held an open meeting on November 18th, where we laid out a proposal for electing a Steering Committee in January and developing a charter that would outline the rights and responsibilities this Steering Committee would have.
